 Kia Ora!

Just 18 sleeps until Christmas!

Room 2 is getting very excited about how close Christmas is getting! Last week we wrote letters to Santa and are hoping to hear back from him soon.

We also made Christmas gifts in art making little pots out of salt dough and then painting them when they were dry. We filled them with treats!

Amongst all the excitement we are also getting ready for our school show. We have been practicing and can't wait to show everyone on show day.
There will be two shows for parents these will be on the 17th at 11.30am and then on the 18th at 2.00pm.

Here's a few photos from our week:

Broad Bean Dip

Today we made broad bean dip with beans and garlic from the schools edible garden!

Lots of us weren't to sure about what it was going to taste like - but some were pleasantly surprised!

Growing your own food is lots of fun!

After making our dip we wrote about what we thought about it.

We made some dip. It was good I am going to get the recipe. Jack did not like the dip. He thought it was bad but it was good.

I smelt the broad bean dip. It smelt like rotten onion and looked like mash potato but I liked the cracker.

middle eastern broad bean dip

Serve with toasted pitta.

Ingredients

  • 1kg fresh broad beans in their pods
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2-3 tbsp olive oil + more to finish
  • paprika or sumac (sour spice available from middle eastern stores)
  • handful coriander leaves, chopped
  • toasted pitta bread to serve

Method

  1. Shell the beans and blanch for 2-3 mins until tender. Run under cold water then pop the inner beans out of their grey skins by making a small tear and squeezing gently (this isn’t essential for small beans, but for larger beans it makes the dish a brighter green as well as improving the taste and texture).
  2. Place beans, garlic, cumin, lemon juice, olive oil and coriander in a food processor. Pulse a few times to combine, but keep the texture slightly chunky. You can use a potato masher if you prefer. Add salt and pepper to taste. Turn out onto a serving plate, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with paprika or sumac. Serve with toasted pitta.

Term 4 Week 5

Hello and Welcome

There is always so many exciting things that happen in Term 4 and as the Term flies by I will try to share all the amazing things happening in Room 2.

We spent the first 2 weeks of Term learning about length in Maths time. We measured ourselves against    others in the classroom. We used language like - I am taller than ... and I am shorter than.

Here we are getting lined up form shortest to tallest.

We have now moved on to Addition and Subtraction and are enjoying beginning this unit.

Last week we had the school disco which was very exciting!

 Kaylee and Ava looking fabulous!

Chali and Ella all dressed up for dancing!

Every Wednesday we have Discovery Time with Room 1 which we LOVE! Learning through play is a really important and a fun way of learning new skills!

Heres a few pictures from this week:

 Making Peacock Fans.
The boys and their castle. This was an amazing piece of construction!

Renee and Talei looking gorgeous in their dress ups.

We were also lucky enough to have an author called Rebecca Metcalf come in and read her book ' The girl who loved to sing' to the class today. It was a lovely book and the children enjoyed asking her lots of questions about being an author.

This weeks Star of the Week was Kaylee! She is always working hard in the classroom and trying her best! We can't ask for more than that. Well Done Kaylee!

Coming up:

Tuesday 19th - Athletics Day - Please come along and support your children. It should be a great day!
Every Friday - Whole School Assembly
Friday 29th - Family Picnic Night

Week 2

Week 2

Week 2 has been a busy and productive one for Room 2. It was great to see all the parents at our 3 way conferences on Thursday. I really enjoy that time, as we get to talk about the successes your children are having and can work together to help the children form and then achieve goals they set for themselves. Thank you to all those who attended.

Here are some pictures from our week:

Sophia using the magnetic letters to make words.

Renee with her Tricky Bags
In Math this week we looked at which is heavier and which is lighter. We used 'tricky bags' to help us find out about how heavy or light objects might be. We asked questions like: Is a full bag always heavier than a half full bag?

We Love Discovery Time on Wednesdays!
